Eines der größten Labels für funky Gospel Veröffentlichungen war zweifellos Jewel Records aus Shreveport, Louisiana. Gegründet wurde es 1963 von Stan The Record Man Lewis, dem Inhaber des Musikgeschäftes »Stan’s Record Shop«. Daraus entstanden ist eine Firma mit weiteren Labels, wie Paula, Ronn und Soul Power. Fünfzig Jahre später sind die Platten des Jewel Gospel Katalogs weltweit gesuchte Sammlerstücke, was natürlich auch an der Qualität der Aufnahmen liegt.
